Dunn

Described by critics as “a piano sound-colour magician” (Muzikos Barai, Vilnius), “evocative and mystical” (New York Classical Music), “a performer with exquisite pedalling, so unobtrusive as to be almost invisible” (Ludwig van Toronto), and “technically perfect” (Belarus First Radio).

He won First Prize and the Concerto Award at the 7th Lithuanian International Chopin Competition (Vilnius) and was a prize winner at the Jan Hoffman International Competition (Kraków). He won piano and chamber music prizes at the D. Vitti, Verona Zinetti, and Rome International Competitions. Mr. Dunn’s playing is heard on CBC/Radio-Canada, Classical 96.3FM, WWFM, WQXR, 98.7 WVMO, Belarusian First, and Madison Freethought Radio-TV. He records for ATMA Classique and Lexicon Classics.

Mr. Dunn has performed with the Lithuanian Chamber, Vilnius Cantus, Toruń, Budapest Chamber, Belarusian Radio, NOSPR, Toronto Sinfonia, Niagara Symphony orchestras, and many others. He is the author of Górecki’s Solo Piano Music (Bloomsbury). He has given lectures and master classes at The Juilliard School, Royal College (London), Guildhall School, Peabody Conservatory, Mannes College, Bydgoszcz Academy, Katowice Academy, and many others. He regularly judges in national and international piano competitions.

His early studies with Anna Dynarowska-Pacanowski preceded a full scholarship to the University of Toronto, from which he graduated with the W.O. Forsyth Award (BM). He furthered his studies at Aspen Music Festival and The Juilliard School with Yoheved Kaplinsky, Dorothy Taubman and Jacob Lateiner. He graduated with distinction from Katowice Academy of Music, where he was a student of Anna Górecka (MM, Post-Graduate Diploma). He then studied with Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (Artist Diploma). He also worked extensively with Maria João-Pires in Portugal and Andrei Gavrilov in Switzerland.
