Bio

Equal parts French and Québécois, born of a mother who was a “garden” and a father who was a “library,” Geneviève began composing songs as early as childhood. She learned to read music before she could write, but only began the piano lessons she had long wished for at the age of ten. During her teenage years in Frelighsburg and Cowansville, she discovered choral singing and graduated from high school with an advanced piano diploma from the Conservatory.

She continued her musical studies at Cégep Saint-Laurent, where she discovered improvisation and turned toward jazz—a path she later deepened at Concordia University, graduating with honours.

At the end of 1999, she released her debut album Verglas et Soleil, which took her to Paris, where FNAC named it a “Coup de cœur.” The following year, she received a songwriting grant from the Conseil des arts du Québec. She then spent several years in France and the Netherlands, performing and becoming a mother.

In 2006, she resumed her songwriting with a six-track EP titled Le Bal des Coïncidences. In October 2015, the red-haired musician released her third album, En Suivant le Vent, produced by guitarist Pierre Côté (Jim Corcoran, Alain Caron, Carol Welsman, among others). Launched at Salle Claude-Léveillée at Place des Arts, the album was enthusiastically received by Radio-Canada.

Alongside her creative work, Geneviève now teaches piano and voice privately in Mile End, her adopted neighbourhood in Montreal. She performs professionally for choirs and churches and has appeared at venues such as Laurie Raphaël, Manoir Rouville-Campbell, and Upstairs Bar & Grill with her Tocca Trio, blending Brazilian Portuguese pieces with her own French-language songs.
