Rebecca Qiuluan Feng began studying private piano lessons at the age of 6 with Ms. Hongyun Bo in Tianjin, China. She achieved the Tianjin Piano Conservatory exam certificate of Level 6 at the age of 10. As a teenager, she had to focus on her school studies and subsequently set piano aside. Ten years later, upon immigrating to Canada, she realized how strong her passion for piano and classical music had become. She soon resumed her studies and was accepted into Concordia University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program, majoring in Piano Performance, under the instruction of Professor Gregory Chaverdian.
In addition to her dedication to the classical repertoire, Rebecca has also developed a large repertoire of gospel music, especially music for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During the past 18 years, she has been performing as a soloist and chamber musician in venues such as Oscar Peterson Hall, L’Oasis Musicale at Christ Church Cathedral, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Place Kensington Concert Hall, and Le Cavalier Residence Hall. She has also served as a piano accompanist for student jury exams at Concordia University, as well as for RCM exams and competitions.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree with a high GPA and distinction, she continued her piano studies with Dr. Elias-Axel Pettersson, Dr. Benjamin Bertin, and Professor Paul Stewart. She also took conducting lessons with Chad Heltzel.
Over the past 18 years, some of Rebecca’s young students have received 90% in the RCM Level 8 exam, 88% in the CMC competition, 94% in the OMNI competition, 98% in the IYMC competition, and Gold Medals in the CMQ competition. All of her young students have performed repertoire equivalent to RCM Levels 9–10 or higher during the competitions mentioned above.
Currently, she is teaching piano at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal as an external teacher. She has also received the High Performance Teacher’s Certificate from the Music Academy of Montreal.
