Praised by LaScena Musicale as the Rising Star of 2022, Montréal pianist David Potvin is rapidly establishing himself as one of Canada’s most exciting contemporary pianists. Winner of the 45th Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, he toured across Canada in the fall of 2022 with a diverse program of Canadian repertoire. He is currently preparing to record his first album, featuring repertoire from his tour.

David is interested in a wide range of repertoire and has performed both as a soloist and in chamber music recitals in Canada, the United States, and Europe. His recent projects include the world premiere of a new work by Kalaisan Kalaichelvan, the album Breathe In, Breathe Out featuring music by composer Edward Enman, a recital with violinist Martin Beaver, and a recital in collaboration with the Canadian Music Centre celebrating the works of Québec composer Jacques Hétu. He has also won prizes at the Shean Competition in 2018 and Tremplin in 2017.

David teaches in both of Canada’s official languages and is a member of the prestigious examination board of the Royal Conservatory of Music. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of Toronto, where he studied with renowned pedagogue Marietta Orlov and won the DMA Recital Competition.
