Reconnue pour « sa sonorité riche et profonde ainsi que sa virtuosité et son enthousiasme exceptionnel » (The Strad), l’altiste Marina Thibeault investit la scène musicale avec une ferveur à chaque fois renouvelée comme chambriste, concertiste et soliste. Décrite somme une altiste possédant de la puissance, de l’assurance et d’excellentes capacités d’interprétation (Peteris Vasks), elle vogue au travers des flots parfois tumultueux d’un répertoire musical savamment choisi,abordant avec le même engagement les œuvres anciennes et nouvelles. Au travers de sa pratique, elle remet constamment en question la place traditionnelle de l’interprète afin de l’inscrire dans une démarche poétique à part entière ainsi qu’une quête physique et un dépassement de soi. En 2022, Marina Thibeault produit l’album Viola Borealis, avec la collaboration de l’Orchestre de l’Agora et Nicolas Ellis, qui fut récompensé du prestigieux JUNO 2023 pour Meilleur Album Classique de l’année (grand ensemble).
Parmi ses récents accomplissements, Marina compte l’interprétation du Concerto pour alto Unearth, Release de la compositrice américaine Julia Adolphe avec l’Orchestre Métropolitain en février 2025. Elle prépare également des projets d’albums chez ATMA Classique, notamment avec le Trio Garibaldi et son duo avec la pianiste Janelle Fung.

Recognized for “her rich, deep tone, as well as her virtuosity and exceptional enthusiasm” (The Strad), violist Marina Thibeault brings a fresh sense of passion to the music scene in her roles as a chamber musician, concert artist, and soloist. Described as a violist possessing power, confidence, and excellent interpretive skills (Peteris Vasks), she navigates the sometimes turbulent waters of a carefully chosen musical repertoire, approaching both old and new works with the same dedication. Through her practice, she constantly challenges the traditional role of the performer, framing it within a poetic approach in its own right, as well as a physical quest and a pursuit of self-transcendence. In 2022, Marina Thibeault released the album *Viola Borealis*, in collaboration with the Orchestre de l’Agora and Nicolas Ellis, which won the prestigious 2023 JUNO Award for Best Classical Album of the Year (large ensemble).
A graduate of McGill University and the Curtis Institute of Music and now Assistant Professor of Viola and Chamber Music Coordinator at McGill, she leads innovative pedagogical initiatives that connect performance, research, and community engagement, while mentoring the next generation of performers through an approach that balances technical rigor with artistic autonomy. Marina Thibeault’s research interests include performance psychology, embodiment, and artistic resilience—interests she also nurtures through endurance sports and time spent in nature. Through her work, she seeks not only to push the boundaries of the viola, but a deeper, more human connection to music—one that invites reflection, vulnerability, and transformation.
