Bruns

‍Sylvia Bruns has lived and worked as a pianist in Montreal since 1985. As an accompanist, she has worked at McGill University, Marianopolis College and with the Orchestre Metropolitain. She performs frequently with chamber ensembles and soloists. Originally from British Columbia, she studied with Dr. Robin Wood at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and Marc Durand at McGill University and the Université de Montréal. She is the Music Director at Christ Church Beaurepaire.

Sylvia finds great joy and challenge in teaching students of various ages, levels and abilities. She has been invited to give masterclasses in various Canadian communities and maintains an active private piano studio in Baie D’Urfé, Quebec. Her primary goal is to cultivate in her students a deep connection with music through the discipline of playing the piano. Lessons are rooted in the classical tradition, enriched by improvisation and composition and are tailored to fit the specific interests and abilities of the individual. Her students perform regularly at local seniors’ residences and community concerts. Several have been prize-winners in local competitions and continued their music studies in college programs, while most play simply for the joy of music.
