Song

Jia Song is a piano teacher and music educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience. She holds both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Music Education, specializing in Piano, from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music.

She began studying piano at around the age of five under Professor Xie Yuan, Professor of Piano at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, former Head of its Keyboard Department, and former President of the Tianjin Piano Association. She also studied with Professor Li Hongmei and piano instructor Kong Mingqi. Her formal traininge stablished a strong foundation in piano performance, music education, and pedagogy.

She began teaching piano in 1999, during her undergraduate studies. Before moving to Montreal, she taught at the Tianjin Senior Citizen University and Tianjin Youth Vocational College, while also maintaining a private piano studio. Over more than two decades, she has taught students of different ages and levels, including those preparing for graded examinations and competitions. Many of her students have achieved strong results in graded piano examinations.

Her teaching combines high standards with patience, structure, and an approachable manner. She adapts her approach to each student’s age, personality, learning pace, and individual needs. Rather than focusing solely on practice and performance, she helps students understand why they practise, what they hear, and what they want to express.

She believes that technique should serve musical expression. Alongside developing sound fundamentals and disciplined practice habits, she encourages students to listen deeply, understand the character of each work, and develop their own musical voice.The aim is not simply to complete pieces or pass examinations, but to cultivate a lasting and meaningful relationship with music—so that students can genuinely hear, understand, and enjoy what they play.

Based in Montreal, she currently teaches classical piano, examination repertoire, and music theory to students of various ages and levels.
