Gavin Fraser (1993) is a composer hailing from Antigonish, Nova Scotia. His work “often balances on a tightrope between beauty and violence” and has been described as “fresh” (NY Classical Review). Dreamlogic, ecological restoration, and storytelling inspire and fuel his artistic practice. Valuing collaboration as a vital source of musical expression, Gavin has created music with renowned artists such as Barbara Hannigan and the EQ ensemble, Jonathan Crow, Philip Chiu, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Julian Schwarz, Marika Bournaki, Trio Lyrical, and Esther-Ruth Teel, among many others. His music has been premiered andperformed across North America and Europe.
Gavin has received numerous awards for his work, notably the first-place awards in the large ensemble, solo/duo, and electroacoustic categories from the SOCAN Foundation (‘24, ’23, ‘22), the Karen Kieser Prize in Canadian Music (’22), as well as grants supporting his work from the Canada Councilfor the Arts. Gavin’s large scale work SIRENS, is an interdisciplinary work for voice, pipe organ, film and poetry.
He received his doctorate in composition from the University of Toronto and is currently based in Montreal, where he works as a composer, film scorer, singer, educator and filmmaker.

Gavin Fraser (1993) est un compositeur originaire d’Antigonish, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Son œuvre « oscille souvent entre beauté et violence » et a été qualifiée de « rafraîchissante » (NY Classica lReview). La logique onirique, la restauration écologique et la narration inspirent et nourrissent sa pratique artistique. Considérant la collaboration comme une source essentielle d’expression musicale, Gavin a créé des œuvres avec des artistes de renom tels que Barbara Hannigan et l’ensemble EQ, Jonathan Crow, Philip Chiu, l’Orchestre philharmonique de Hamilton, Julian Schwarz, Marika Bournaki, le Trio Lyrical et Esther-Ruth Teel, parmi tant d’autres. Ses compositions ont été créées et jouées à travers l’Amérique du Nord et l’Europe.
Gavin a reçu de nombreux prix pour son travail, notamment les premiers prix dans les catégories grand ensemble, solo/duo et électroacoustique de la Fondation SOCAN (2024, 2023,2022), le Prix Karen Kieser de musique canadienne (2022), ainsi que des subventions du Conseil des Arts du Canada pour soutenir son travail. L’œuvre à grande échelle de Gavin SIRENS, est une œuvre interdisciplinaire pour voix, orgue, film et poésie.
Il a obtenu son doctorat en composition à l’Université de Toronto et est actuellement basé à Montréal, où il travaille comme compositeur de musique de film, chanteur, éducateur et cinéaste.
