Q. Having sent my application form and membership fee, when do I receive my receipt and card?

A. After having received your criteria to the QMTA treasurer (address above), it will be approved by the QMTA board of directors, then sent to the registrar who will send you a receipt, a membership card, and a directory of members. Please take note that these items are mailed only three times a year, together with our journal Musifax, in October, January and April.

Q. I would like my name to appear in the "Find a teacher" online directory. How do I register?

A. The "Find a teacher" online directory is a database, which allows parents and students to find a teacher by entering a locality, and a practical and/or theoretical subject. All active and provisional members are automatically listed, unless they notify us otherwise, by contacting the website manager at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Q. Can changes be made to my listing?

A. You may make changes by contacting the website manager at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Q. I would like my name to be related to more than one locality or borough. Is it possible?

A. A given name may only be associated to one locality. However, your name will come up in the searches related to the instrument you teach.

Q. Is it possible to be referred as a teacher by the Association?

A. When a prospect student contacts the QMTA to have a referral, we direct him to the website. If this person doesn't have access to the site, or if the criteria are too precise, we provide him with names of teachers, depending on his request, in a way not to favour a candidate over another.

Q. Is the QMTA an exclusive association for the Montreal region music teachers?

A. A majority (95%) of the members of the Association teach in the Greater Montreal region. A few teachers come from the Eastern Townships, Montérégie, Lanaudiere, Laurentians and Outaouais. We greatly appreciate having members from other regions. Because our members' concentration is in Montreal, our activities take place in the Metropolitan area.

Q. Can I obtain copies or past editions of the Musifax journal?

A. All the members of the QMTA receive a copy of Musifax. Other copies may be obtained for $6.00 each, including postage. You can send your order with a cheque made out to: Quebec Music Teachers' Association ( not "Musifax", please!) to:

Danielle Langevin, 336 St. Francis Blvd, Unit 2, Chateauguay, Qc, J6J 1Z3.

See Musifax page for more information.

Q. Who can join the board of directors?

A. All active and provisional members can be part of the Executive Committee and Friend members can be directors. The Committee is elected each year, during the QMTA General meeting.

Q. Why do membership fees now include liability insurance?

A. As we are remunerated to teach our students, we are practicing a commercial activity that exposes us to different types of risks that can generate civil liability lawsuits. Even if we teach in a school, we need some protection when outdoor activities like concerts, exams, and festivals are taking place. We also need protection during various QMTA events, and against combined lawsuits involving the QMTA members as an association. If this insurance was to be taken individually by each teacher, the premiums would be unduly high, but the QMTA is in a position to provide it to each of its members under a group insurance policy. It is offered at a very reasonable rate because we share it with members of all the other provincial associations affiliated with the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations (CFMTA) across Canada. In order for this insurance to be in force, all the members must participate. This insurance is mandatory for all QMTA active & provisional members as it is mandatory for all the members of the other provincial associations.
