Quebec Music Teachers' Association (QMTA)'s
AIMS AND IDEALS

Since its inception in 1942, the Quebec Music Teachers’ Association’s (QMTA) principal aim has been to promote music education in the province. It was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1944. The Association primarily groups private music teachers though its members include many teachers at the College, Conservatory and University levels. As stated in its constitution, the QMTA's aims and ideals include:

  • promoting better musical understanding among music teachers through a cooperative endeavour in the field of music;
  • promoting progressive ideas in the teaching of music in all branches of the art;
  • bringing about the registration of all qualified teachers of music in the Province of Quebec;
  • establishing and encouraging the adoption of definite standards of proficiency.

The QMTA is a member of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations (CFMTA) which serves as the umbrella organization for music teachers’ associations in nine Canadian provinces. The aim of the CFMTA is to encourage and provide the highest calibre of music education possible and to promote high standards of music in each community. Become a member today!
